One property in Northfleet, one long day — around 30 bags of garden waste and soil, a run of timber, rolls of old flooring and weeds pushing through the concrete. Here's how it went, start to swept-off finish.

Stop 01
Most weeks are lots of small jobs. Now and then one property fills the whole day — this was one of those, over in Northfleet. A back run where garden work and a flooring job had stacked up for a while: bags on bags of soil and green waste, lengths of timber, an old barbecue, and weeds coming up through the concrete like they owned the place.

Thirty bags along the fence
First walk round, I counted about thirty bags along the fence — half of them proper builders' merchant sacks. Northfleet through and through: you can see the Lower Road merchant's name printed on half of them. All of it went on the truck by hand, load by load.

The corner the weeds took
Round the corner, the weeds had properly taken over — pushing up between the slabs and halfway up the fence. All pulled, bagged and gone with the rest.

Old flooring, tubes and offcuts
And the leftovers from an old flooring job — cardboard tubes, offcuts of lino and vinyl, more bags. The awkward, long, won't-fit-in-the-car stuff is exactly what the tipper's for.
Swept off
