How do you get heavy items down a narrow loft hatch?
Carefully, and in pieces where needed. I've done enough lofts to know how to break things down without damaging the hatch frame or the ceiling. If something genuinely won't fit, I'll tell you on the call.
What if there's old insulation or water damage?
Old loose-fill insulation in pre-1985 houses occasionally contains asbestos — if there's any doubt, I won't disturb it and I'll recommend an asbestos survey first. Standard mineral wool or fibreglass insulation is fine — I bag and take it.
Does the loft need to be easily accessible before you come?
A working hatch and a loft ladder help a lot, but I've worked in lofts with pull-down hatches and no ladder before. Tell me the setup when you call and I'll let you know what we need.
How much does a loft clearance cost in Gravesend?
Depends on how much is up there, what condition it's in, and the access. A working ladder and a normal hatch is twice as fast as a pull-down hatch with no ladder — that affects the time and the price. Water-damaged or contaminated stock is heavier and bagging takes longer. A standard '20 boxes and old furniture' loft is a half-day; decades-of-storage lofts take longer.
